On Complexity of Derivative-Free Optimization
Speaker Bio: Katya Scheinberg is a Coca-Cola Foundation Chair and Professor at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering Georgia Institute of Technology. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, she held positions at Cornell and Lehigh Universities and at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. She attended Moscow University for her undergraduate studies and received her PhD degree from Columbia University. In 2015, with Conn and Vicente, she won the Lagrange Prize in Continuous Optimization for her book, "Introduction to Derivative Free Optimization". She was awarded the Farkas Prize in 2019 and named a Fellow of INFORMS in 2022, "for outstanding research contributions to continuous optimization, particularly derivative-free optimization and the interface of optimization and machine learning, as well as outstanding service and leadership". She became a SIAM fellow in 2025 was an invited speaker at ICM 2026.
